about.
SR AUDIO is an experimental real-time app made in Unreal Engine for glass-free 3D screens. The idea was to see how stereoscopic images and spatial sound can work together, so you get more feeling of depth without wearing glasses. The user can move in front of the display and see the 3D react to their perspective, while the sound also changes, making the digital scene feel a bit more real.
challenge.
For me this project was a step into new areas. I had not worked much with binaural audio before, and also not with glass-free 3D screens. The biggest challenge was to make the sound feel as 3D as the picture. In VR you have headsets and headphones that make this easy, but here the user just stands in front of the screen. So I had to find a way to keep the audio in sync with the head and ears of the person, while also making the stereo image stable. Small mistakes quickly broke the illusion, so I was testing a lot, adjusting things again and again. Unreal also had to run smooth in real time, so it was a balance between performance and experimenting.
result.
In the end the prototype showed that visuals and sound together can make the feeling of depth much stronger. The binaural audio reacted to the head position, and sometimes it really felt like the sound was inside the 3D scene. Not everything worked perfect—sometimes the perspective or sound would drift—but these mistakes showed me clearly where the difficult points are. I learned a lot about how sensitive our ears and eyes are for depth, and how small changes can already make something feel more real or not.
